Update Cathy's well 26/11/2009


Cathy is in good health, and I have no worries with her.

  5. Hi Colin, I'm delighted to hear all is well with 010. I'm relieved to hear the picture is the adult female - I was poring intently at it wondering why the wings both looked perfect and why I couldn't see the ring on the leg! Is there any way an observer can tell the sex of a bird from a picture or do you tell in the field by the size of the bird? I love your other set of photos, the kingfishers. I live by water (the Wendover Arm of the Grand Union Canal) and on very rare occasions see that magic flash of irridescent blue shoot past. I kid myself, but I chose a kingfisher motif on my house name sign.

These birds look so spectacular in flight. I think in flight is my favourite way to see them. Thanks for sharing Colin.
